4) ONE STREET OVER:
One Street Over happenings:
have changed our schedule at Murdocks to now be the 1st, 3rd, and 5th, Wednesday
of each month starting in November.
5) NATURES HAVEN PRESENTS:
Nature’s Haven Songwriter Sunday general setup:
We are located at 602 Brevard Avenue in Cocoa Village across from Cocoa City Hall and Murdocks. Nature's Haven is a small boutique selling all natural products such as essential oils, clothing, spiritual literature and many other items. We have many great gift items as well.
Doreen and I both are really dedicated to live entertainment and feel a shortage of venues for performances exists in this county so full of talented performers, particularly for a small, house type, concert. Generally these are scheduled on Sundays at 2:00 for an hour to an hour and a half with open microphone afterwards. Nature's Haven hopes to benefit from the goodwill our decision to provide a venue for no charge, will hopefully create, by increased store sales. Though we do not encourage our sales during the show, we hope people will remember and come back to purchase our goods and keep us in business for a long time.
We create a flyer advertising the performance or use one provided by the artist, so send us your information, including your history, original CD’s, type of music, day job, etc. and a picture or two to create the flyer and to put on our web site. We also make actual tickets. We promote through an email list, a network of musicians, Space Coast Live (an incredible local website for musical events), Kool Beanz website (long a standard for folk music happenings), the Musical Kottage (a local group of songwriters and poets), posting the flyer on our store windows and around Cocoa Village and etc., plus radio coverage and the Florida Today events section when we can.
For concerts we move the racks and move in the tables and chairs to seat 28 close but comfortably, a very intimate setting with a concert format rather than say a restaurant that has music in addition to the dinner. So far the artists have been charging $7.00 at the door and that has been working well. We give the entire door collection to the performer as well as all CD sales day of show of the performers art. We encourage the artist to donate a few original CD's to us to sell later but that is not required.
The entertainer may bring as many guests as wished, free of charge or not, since it is his or her monies, we will charge all of our guests that are not working to keep the focus on the artist making a payday as well. We have a small complete sound system and set it up ourselves prior to the concert if the artist wishes...

Contact: Sandi, WFIT 89.5FM,
The Steve Thorpe Blues Orchestra Plays in Wickham Park
MELBOURNE, FLA.—WFIT 89.5FM, a service of Florida Tech, and Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department present The Steve Thorpe Blues Orchestra on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 3 to 6 p.m., in the new Amphitheatre at Wickham Park.
A monthly event, “Random Acts of Music,” will kick off with Blues music and Steve Thorpe, followed by jazz on Sept. 2. The first Saturday of every month will be a different genre of music- from Blues to Jazz to Latin to World to holiday music and more.
The Steve Thorpe Orchestra is in great demand in Brevard County and all over the State. It’s a high-energy blues band with Thorpe on lead guitar and vocals, his son Nathan Thorpe, on bass; Kenny Clarke on vocals and keyboards; and Dan Fournier on drums. The four make up the hard hitting, dynamic group.
Making the transition from the classic Mississippi Delta Blues to the more modern rock-edged blues, so popular today, was easy for Thorpe and his band. The band’s two CDs, “Trouble” and “Live: Down and Dirty” are examples of the rock-edged blues. Thorpe says that he mainly plays blues with a rock delivery, adding, “the thrust of what I do has a rock-funk delivery of the blues.”
The concert is free. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for three hours of rockin’-blues enjoyment.
7) JANET REEDY
Hope you're all doing well. We're great! I have recently been blessed with a new job. I'm the new caricature artist at Ron Jon's Cape Caribe resort, and I'm having a ball! Thank you Lord! If you're out there M-F 11-2:30 stop by the pool and say HI.
I've got a gig this Thurs. too, at Capt. Garo's Redfish Inn on US 1 just south of Frontenac. I'll be on from 5-9 pm and I really hope some of you can make it. I haven't played there in a long time, because the place got a little crazy and rough. But it is under new management, and they've made some nice changes and I thought I'd give it another try. But it'd be great to see some familiar faces there. God Bless y'all and I'll see you soon.

Friends and colleagues,
I will be in Orlando on Saturday June 10th talking about the STS-107 space shuttle Columbia crew and my book, "Columbia - Final Voyage".

The free event is scheduled for Saturday, June 10th at 1 p.m. on the third floor in the Albertson room and the public is welcome.
It's been three years since the STS-107 shuttle mission, Columbia's last flight. You know how you found out about the accident, where you were, and how you found out, but what do you know about the astronauts and their mission?
This talk will concentrate on the seven people who made up Columbia's crew, who they were, and their mission. It will include photos and videos of the astronauts which have not been publicly released.
Philip Chien is the author of the book "Columbia - Final Voyage" - the story of the mission and the people on Columbia's last space shuttle mission. More information is available at the author's website - http://www.sts107.info

21) MIKE RUNION:
My buddy Troy and I are going to be hosting an internet radio show starting this Friday, April 14, from 9pm to midnight (eastern standard time). And running every Friday after that. On www.tropicwaveradio.net, broadcasting live out of Brevard County, Florida, U.S. Mostly us playing music we like, leaning towards the more obscure. Stuff you won't hear on most other radio stations. Old stuff, new stuff. We'll be talking a lot about whatever comes to mind, talking about the bands, or movies, or whatnot. It'll be pretty free form bouncing from alternative to country to jam bands to folk to jazz...trying to draw connections between the music, etc. We'll have special guests on from time to time, including my daughter Malina with "The 4th Grade Report" every two weeks. We'll be opening up the show after a few weeks with local musicians playing live in the studio, doing interviews, that sort of thing. Should be a fun time. Occasionally we may be broadcasting live gigs from local venues.
So, if you're just sitting around your house on a Friday night playing on the computer, then get off your ass and go out and do something. If that doesn't work, tune us in and listen. You can call in toll-free with requests and/or chat with us online, or IM us at tropicwaveradio (Yahoo, AIM) or IM@tropicwaveradio.net (MSN).
Feel free to spread the word. The most listeners, the merrier.

Remember... we would love to perform for YOUR party, club meeting, etc.!
At long last, Patchwork Rides Again! Yes, "it's been ten long years..." (since the last one), but the new CD from Florida's fabulous five, flat pickin', fiddlin' females is finally here. Patchwork Rides Again, recorded live at the Thomas Center in January of 2005, is a constantly surprising sampling of the group's eclectic tastes -- it creates a musical cuisine with something for everybody.
The recording includes original music like the award-winning "My Heart Belongs to Florida", jazz tunes like "It Don't Mean a Thing (if it Ain't got That Swing)", rhythm & bluesgrass like Aretha Franklin's "Rescue Me", bluegrass tunes like "Thank Heavens for Dale Evans", and Stephen Stills' rock classic "Helplessly Hoping".

NATURES HAVEN proudly presents:
Featuring: Lathan Hudson, four time Grammy nominee
In Concert-April 30th, 2006 at 2:00
Join us as Nature’s Haven showcases top songwriters in an intimate, concert like setting. House concerts have long been an excellent venue for songwriters to share their talents and we are enjoying providing our space for that purpose. We are hosting this event along with promotion from the Musical Kottage, once a month with a different original song or music artist each time. There will also be an “open microphone" following the concert for those who would like to share a song or poem. Come see Lathan perform at Nature’s Haven on Sunday, April 30th, 2006 @ 2:00 pm at 602 Brevard Avenue in Cocoa Village, Florida.
Lathan on Lathan:
"I was one of the original "Beatniks". Possibly the only "Beatnik" (long hair) on a football scholarship at Troy State in Alabama (all the other players had their head shaved). We pre-dated "Hippies" and didn't champion any causes. We did our "Beat" Poetry in Coffee Houses and played folk music. Although I've played a few songs every now-and-then for my friends and Musical Kottage Members, this is the first "Concert" I will have played since 1974. After that, we moved to Nashville and I concentrated on my song writing.
If you have something better to do - like having a 'root-canal' or 'vasectomy' - than to come see me play, you may have made the wiser choice."

30 Your Gig Here?:
Odyssey' Anniversary Party!!
Melbourne, FL –
Fifteen years later, Fred’s dream has flourished into a weekly syndicated radio show called FM Odyssey heard all over the US and in New Zealand and the Philippines.
To celebrate this milestone in Fred’s career. WFIT and FM Odyssey will bring legendary singer songwriters Artie Traum and Wendy Waldman to the All Faith Center on the campus of Florida Tech, Saturday evening, April 22nd at 8pm.
Artie Traum has been recording since the late sixties. In 1970 Artie joined forces with his brother Happy and recorded their first album for Capitol that the New York Times hailed as ‘one of the best records in any field of pop music’. Artie went to play and record with The Band, James Taylor, Kris Krsitoferson, Maria Mulduar just to name a few.
In 2000, he released ‘Meetings with remarkable friends’ that included Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, John Sebastian, Tony Levin and The Band.
In 2003, ‘South of Lafayette was released to critical acclaim and was featured on NPR’s Morning Edition with Linda Wertheimer set up through Fred Migliore’s Fast Forward Artist Promotions.
Wendy Waldman’s first album in 1973 was proclaimed by Rolling Stone Magazine to be the “singer- songwriter debut of the year’. She went on to record many huge albums and her songs have been covered by Vanessa Williams, Crystal Gail, Aaron Neville, Bette Midler (co-wrote with Bette for the movie Beaches) The Nitty Gritty Dirt band and Garth Brooks.
She is currently finishing her next solo album for release this summer.
Tickets reservations for the concert are 15 for WFIT members, 18 for non and 20 the day of the show by calling WFIT at 674-8140 or online at wfit.org.
For interviews with Artie Traum, Wendy Waldman or Fred Migliore please call Fred at 452-6036. www.fmodyssey.com
FM Odyssey celebrates 15 years of airtime
The callers sounded so angry that eventually Fred Migliore quit answering the phone.
"They weren't quite death threats, but they sounded pretty close," he says of his first few weeks on WFIT-FM (89.5) as host of his "Another Conventional Sunday Morning" radio show.
His show replaced a popular acoustic/jazz show, and listeners weren't taking to Migliore's music choices of obscure '60s and '70s music and new and emerging artists.
But then results of the pledge drive came in.
"We broke every record," he said. "It certainly surprised me. That's when I started answering the phone again."
Flash forward 15 years, and Migliore still is broadcasting in the same time slot, same station. It also is syndicated to 35 other stations around the world. A few years ago, Migliore officially changed the name of the show to "FM Odyssey" to reflect the expansion.
The show continues to find an audience among listeners who enjoy learning, say, Al Stewart's career didn't end with "The Year of the Cat" or that Randy Newman's repertoire extends beyond "Short People" and his movie tunes.
This Sunday, Migliore will celebrate the 15-year-milestone with an expanded four-hour show from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program will focus on music of 1970.
"Is it anniversary-related? I think it is when you consider the show has often focused on one topic and has tried to be educational as well as entertaining," he said.
Sunday's year of choice might seem fitting especially because WFIT program director Todd Kennedy likens the show's nature to the early days of FM radio.
"When FM radio first started, disc jockeys could play the entire side of an album by one artist," Kennedy said. "That was long before big business came in and (songs) had to be tested and retested before they could be played."
Migliore said he will continue to look for a major distribution deal for his show.
In addition, the station continues to offer National Public Radio news programming such as "All Things Considered" and "Morning Edition." 800-341-1480
